Toyota takes home 9 retained value awards from Canadian Black Book

Published on February 28 2017

Retained value should be an important criteria for anyone in the market for a new vehicle. Although it’s only natural to think short term when buying a new car, truck, or sport utility vehicle, the reality is that down the road, we will quite happy if our vehicle has a high resale value. And when it comes to keeping the value of its models up, no other automaker can compete with Toyota.

Toyota receives 9 best residual value awards from Canadian Black Book

Toyota was once again recognized by the Canadian Black Book this year for having one of the best retained values of any automaker, taking home the publications Top Overall Brand award in the truck and SUV category, along with 8 other individual vehicle awards.

The 2017 Canadian Black Book retained value awards looked at 2013 models that best kept their value over the last four years. In other words, the publication named the vehicles in each category that kept the biggest proportion of their original value, and therefore had the best resale value.

Eight Toyota vehicles won their respective categories according to the 2017 Canadian Black Book awards, while six models won ALG best residual value awards. Toyota had more CBB retained value awards than any other manufacturer for the 8th straight year, and took home more ALG residual value awards than any other brand for the 3rd year in a row.

Moreover, Toyota has claimed 49 CBB awards since 2010, almost four times more than its closest competitor.

The following models took home the Canadian Black Book Retained Value Award and/or the ALG Residual Value Award:

Toyota Tundra - full-size pick-up: CBB and ALG (eighth consecutive year for each award)

Toyota Tacoma - CBB small pick-up (eighth consecutive year) and ALG mid-size pick-up (seventh consecutive year)

Toyota Sequoia - full-size SUV: CBB (eighth consecutive year) and ALG (fifth consecutive year)

Toyota FJ Cruiser - mid-size SUV: CBB (seventh consecutive year)

Toyota 4Runner - off-road utility: ALG (third consecutive year)

Toyota Highlander - mid-size utility, third-row seating: ALG

Toyota Camry - mid-size car: CBB (second consecutive year)

Toyota Prius v - alternative fuel: ALG (second consecutive year)

Toyota Prius c - sub-compact car: CBB

Toyota Avalon - full-size car: CBB

Toyota Sienna - minivan: CBB (co-winner)

“At the heart of the great product we deliver to Canadians is our commitment to adding value to the overall ownership experience,” said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO of TCI. “These awards are deeply meaningful because they speak to the long-term benefits our customers enjoy across our broad line-up of vehicles, including exceptional quality, great fuel economy and lower cost of ownership.”
