Published on January 31 2019

Oh, we were waiting for that one. The new 2020 Toyota Supra has finally arrived in North America after years of delays, rumours and leaked images.

New Toyota Supra A90 thrills automotive industry

Unveiled for the first time at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and then at the Montreal International Auto Show, the Supra has been the center of attention in the automotive industry for the last few months, and with good reason. Powerful, light and stylish, the new-generation Supra was certainly worth the wait.

Its chief engineer Tetsuye Tada did not hesitate to state that the Porsche Cayman served as the benchmark for the Supra redesign of the new Supra which says a lot about the what we can expect from the Supra in the performance department.

Under the hood is a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine developing 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. Powerful and refined, this engine will allow the Supra to reach 100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

With a perfectly balanced 50/50 weight distribution, the Supra will certainly be an agile track beast, manageable and perfectly controllable. With its active suspension and active differential, the Supra will be able to adapt perfectly to the conditions and behaviour of the driver to deliver a very high level of performance.

Conversely, Toyota wants to make sure that its new Supra is fun to drive and enjoyable even when we are not on a track. Two driving modes are offered in the Supra and Toyota is adamant that the car has been designed to be comfortable during everyday use as well.

It will include a host of comfort features such as keyless entry, dual zone climate control, rear view camera, Apple CarPlay, and an 8.8-inch center screen with navigation.

The 2020 Toyota Supra also receives a set of driver assistance systems that includes automatic braking with pedestrian detection and a lane departure warning system with power steering.

The 2020 Toyota Supra will enter the market a little later this year.
