2018 Toyota Tacoma

Published on December 30 2017

Utility and brawn aren’t the realms of Americans anymore. Toyota is giving the holy US trinity a run for its money with the very capable 2018 Tacoma with the added legacy for quality and reliability.

For 2018, the model has received a few minor upgrades. The model is available in thirteen different trims and variations, including the new 2018 4x4 Double Cab Limited with short box.

The Tacoma has been taking its share of the mid-size pickup truck market since 1995. It has since evolved into a heavy lifting machine and an off-roading companion, capable of pretty much any rugged task you might put it through. Thanks to its 3.5-liter V6 engine rated at 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, its towing capacity can reach up to 2,950 kg.

An entry-level, smaller 2.7 L, four-cylinder engine is offered as well. Two transmissions are also available; a six-speed automatic transmission as well as a manual box available with the V6. The Tacoma is available in a two-wheel and four-wheel drive layout as well as in a single and double cab version. These options will allow you to personalize the Tacoma to your needs. The box provides a payload of up to 680 kg for maximum utility. This is a workhorse you can definitely count on.

And don’t worry about dusty and/or rocky roads - the Tacoma doesn’t shy away from a bit, or a lot, of off-roading. The TRD off-roading package is available and adds Fox Shock Absorbers, reservoir suspension kit, TRD-tuned front coil springs and rear leaf springs, all-terrain tires and a skid plate,  should you need the extra versatility. And with a ground clearance of 238 mm, you won’t have to wonder whether or not you can make it out there, off the beaten paths.

On the inside, utility turns to comfort to make sure that whatever task is at hand, the driver and passengers’ comfort isn’t neglected. Are included in the standard and optional features heated bucket power seats, two-zone climate control, wheel-mounted commands, backup camera, four-wheel drive selector, storage compartments under the rear seats, a 12-volt electric outlet, and keyless access.

The optional seven-inch touchscreen comes with navigation, voice-activated commands, satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

Also new this model-year is the Toyota Safety Sense suite of safety technologies that includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert and dynamic radar adaptive cruise control. These features complete an already generous list of safety technology and features that will keep everyone on board safe.

Starting at $30,900, the 2018 Toyota Tacoma is priced competitively. If you’re on the market for a reliable, well-assembled and capable pickup truck, make a stop a Kingston Toyota to discover how the Japanese do utility.
